here is my final shot.
its a monotone color scheme. some examples of creating space through the use of overlapping shapes and perspective. the is so much texture in the felt and all the gross dust and lint.
this is the subject i am thinking about using - possibly a different angle and lighting. also maybe some text. it shows space through the use of overlapping and perspective and size scale. as it is quit monochrome now, that may change with the next pictures.
here is my completed project. it was hard to capture a really good shot of the bottom texture. i ended up wrinkling all the pages and than sticking them down. it is really shiny in person and actually shows quit a bit of texture.
revisited
1 Symmetry - balance is created by the shape of the sheets and the matresses
2 texture - there are many elements of texture throughout this ad, i like how the wrinkles in the bed suggest motionpattern - there is pattern achieved in the vertical lines, which is than broken by the vertical lines of the sheet, again creating a clear focal point.
Imbalance - the rug on the left side of the bed throws off the balance created by the bed and tables - i feel it adds a little chaos to the situation at hand.
contrast - there are several “levels” of contrast within this ad. the floor, tables and lamps all contrast against the stripes on the mattress - which contrast again with the white wrinkles of the sheets. also the hands and hair contrast and create the focal point within the white sheets.
isolation - the product images stand alone to the right of everything else going on here.
lines to convey mood - a chaotic feeling is created by the diagonal lines
surrealism - i think the positioning of the body parts is rather surreal, as well as this whole unrealistic problem. it leaves a lot to the imagination. i can’t figure out which parts go to who and how a body would contort in such a way
motion - while there is no actual physical motion, the feel that this poor couple is being sucked into the bed is achieved through the use of the diagonal lines pointing into the crevice between the mattress.
space - the diagonal lines all meeting in the center created a feeling of depth and one can relate to falling into the space between the mattresses
these are my materials
the first step is painting over the canvas white…
i will be cutting the pages out of the books and using one as my focal point.
trying to come with a way to make the base texture pages more interesting…. i thought about lightly staining them or something. or perhaps a wrinkled effect… any suggestions? thanks!
here are some re-sketches
in the first one the red lines will be thick painted wire, with the blue being a light bulb with wiring sautered to the electrical components. i noticed circuit boards were one of the items in the dont use this, so i may have to come up with a different base.
for paper and book draft 2 - i will tear pages out of a book and paper mache them to a canvas (or board) for a base texture. i think i will also use a finish coat over the book pages to make them harder.
more to come…
for paper and book - i thought about ripping all the pages out of a book and wadding them up. like a writer does when having “writers block”. Than gluing them all over a canvas (represented by the star shapes, maybe not so uniform). than i would have an open book rising up out of the papers, with the pages curled back.
electric - i thought it would be neat to find a bunch of circuity boards, old motherboards or whatever i can come up with. my recycling center has a lot of this stuff. i would arrange them in a somewhat square pattern. in the corner would be a light bulb sticking out. i thought of adding wires or some other electric thing sticking up off the light bulb to create a bit more interest.
glass - i have a box full of stained glass shards that i would glue to a clear Plexiglas piece (with a invisible glue), the focal point would be pieces of mirror. the idea is that light would shine through the colored and textured glass and not show through the mirror, although you would see your reflection in it. make sense? or i could do the opposite and use mirror all over and the stained glass for the focal.
PLEASE let me know what you all think…. THANKS!!
construction -
so this must have taken me a good six hours at least…
none of my shapes were simple measurements like 1” or 2”. i was dealing with decimals and squiggly lines. it was all done with measuring, scissors and a circle protractor. i also had to cut the mount board to the right size… anyway, i am pretty happy with it and think it is pretty close to the original.
i feel it is a great example of unity and variation through the repetition in shapes and size, with the obvious change of shape in the sunburst. my favorite aspect of this piece is the visual movement created, mostly by the triangles. i wanted the viewer to feel as though there is some kind of conversations happening between the different shapes.
thanks, nic m
i ended with five variations of the original, i included them all just to show my ideas.
i am leaning more towards the final one 10dot7. it has the most pieces and will be the most challenging… but i think i can pull it off
which one do you like best?
most of these i found on adsoftheworld.com
